The intensity of feelings that we build up for one person are usually the reaction of not dealing with our feelings for another person that we wish to push out of our hearts. We will fixate on someone to avoid the depth of our emotions for someone else. Sometimes, this takes on the form of rebounding, "falling in love" with someone after being barred out of love for another. Sometimes it is simple replacement: the one that seems prudent to replace the one that seems impossible to obtain. Whether or not it is possible to be with the one you truly desire, forcing yourself to forget and love the one that seems possible is a recipe for disaster. Why? Because the person who you use as a substitute is wrong for you 9 times out of 10. You will end up not making a connection with them because there really is no connection to be made or you will end up despising the person if you do begin a relationship with them.
What is the solution for feelings that can never be realized because the person you can't get out of your heart is unattainable? Either wait until you find someone you love even more or resign yourself to a life of unrequited love. Even the latter is better than a life spent with someone who is a replacement for the one you hold in your heart.
