I wasn't inclined to listen to A Fine Frenzy after hearing her debut single "Almost Lover". The song, though touching, didn't move me to investigate the artist. I'm ashamed to say that I started listening to Alison Sudol (A Fine Frenzy is her project's name) because I liked the cover of her sophomore album Bomb in a Birdcage. Actually, I liked the outfit she wore on the cover: a simple combination of a black blazer and white button- down shirt. I gave the album a whirl on itunes and have been hooked ever since. Her music manages to be whimsical yet stirring at the same time. Few artists accomplish that from my experience. Her third album, Pines, was released back in early October, but I'm still listening to it almost daily. It stays true to A Fine Frenzy's winning blend of quirky vocals, heartfelt lyrics and flowing melodies while adding a new chapter to the artist's story. And although I think Alison should dye her hair back to red, I'm already looking forward to her next effort.
